LangChain builds the open source frameworks that top engineers at startups and Fortune 500 enterprises rely on to build AI agents faster and ship with greater reliability.

We were tasked with reinventing LangChain's brand identity as well as developing a strategic foundation to codify their brand architecture, uniting the parent and numerous sub brands under a cohesive design system. This new identity would also need to speak to a shift in audience from the everyman to the more tech-savvy developer.

We began with the logo. LangChain had existing brand equity in their parrot logo, but with the company's exponential growth, there was an opportunity to infuse the concept with new meaning. That meaning became the idea that LangChain is the iteration engine that allows agents to take flight. Circular, geometric shapes with sharp edges and fluid, arcing forms assemble to create an image of a soaring bird, where the sense of uplift is built into every curve.

The wordmark uses Lausanne by Weltkern accentuated with custom glyphs that tie back to the logo via distinct rounded, tapered forms to convey uplift and aerial glide.

Reinforcing the notion of flight, our primary color palette of light and dark blue was inspired by the shades of the sky from late afternoon to dusk. The deeper tones reflect a preference for dark mode environments favored by engineers, while also lending the brand a sense of depth and sophistication. The plums, purples, and peaches in the expanded palette take cues from sunset colors while the greens nod to the coding life of an engineer.

Using our bird logo as our foundation, we developed an expansive suite of product icons spanning LangChain's complete portfolio. Each emblem in the symbol library takes cues from the LangChain logo's circular motif and tapered, arcing forms, sharing a language of movement, uplift, and flight. Lending unity between the icons in the LangChain open source frameworks and LangSmith Agent Engine platform for debugging, iterating, shipping, and scaling.

The system's graphic language brings the R&D process to life. Influenced by the murmuration patterns of birds and the pattern-based ways of "thinking" employed by generative AI models, it uses a mixture of lines and dots to visualize various steps in the agentic modeling process. Going from complex to simple. Taking the multiple threads and components of an idea and streamlining them into one.

The complete design system helped the LangChain team visualize and understand how the brand could flex in any type of environment. From OOH to web to social to merch, the product icons and node network dot language artfully communicate the value of their products for engineering teams. Allowing them and the agents they're building to truly take flight.
